Introducing the world’s highest density 8-way Supermicro Server
Supermicro delivers the world’s highest-density 8-way server in line with Intel’s release of the E7-8800 v3/v4 family of CPUs featuring up to 24 cores each, supporting an incredible 24TB of RAM and 192 cores in a 7U enclosure. Ideal for in-memory database applications, virtualisation and business intelligence, the 7088B-TR4FT launches imminently.
- Up to 192 cores with 24 core per processor option – Intel® Xeon® E7-8891 v4
- Up to 24 TB of DDR4 ECC memory enables large in-memory databases, hosting of mission critical applications and large virtual machines
- The only 7U 8-socket server in the industry (all others are > 7U)
- 8 CPU modules with GPU or NVMe support for HPC and cache boost
- 2 storage modules with RAID card support for data cache and storage
- Hot plug PCI-E modules for easy network card replacement
- 15 x PCI-E Gen 3 slots
- HPC, Big Data and cloud applications
As well as the massive increase in RAM capacity, the E7-8800 v4 family features various other improvements which yield a 1.3x performance boost from the previously launched v3 generation.
Generational gains up to 1.3x on average on Intel Xeon Processor E7 v4 (“Broadwell-EX”) using the 4-Socket “Brickland”-based Servers
- 8 Intel® Xeon® processor E7-8800 v4/v3 family (up to 24-Core)
- Up to 15 or 23 (OEM) PCI-E 3.0 slots, U.2 NVMe support option available
- 192 DDR4 memory DIMM slots, support up to 24TB of DDR4 ECC LRDIMMs
- Up to 12x 2.5" hot-swap SAS3/SATA3 HDD/SSD drive bays
- 4 10GBase-T LAN ports (via SIOM)
- Onboard BMC supports IPMI 2.0
- Default HDD connection: 2 SATA2 ports via C602J onboard
- 2 SATA3 SATA DOM + 2 SATA2 M.2 for internal storage device connection via C602J onboard
- 1620W Hot-swap (N+1) redundant Titanium Level power supplies

Another technology worth highlighting is the new Super I/O Module (SIOM) which Supermicro have integrated into this solution and the newest 2U TwinPro servers. Rather than offer a number of different motherboards with networking options, Supermicro are standardising the boards and decoupling the networking functionality from them, this not only reduces the complexity of the motherboard offerings but also increases flexibility for you to evolve your network capabilities.
The SIOM modules currently come in 1Gbps and 10Gbps models, with dual or quad port and fits in a proprietary slot, leaving PCI-e slots available for additional add-on cards.
